Mariah Carey and her 11-year-old daughter, Monroe Cannon, are fast becoming a legendary musical duo. On December 9, during her “Merry Christmas to All” show in Toronto, Carey brought Monroe onstage to sing a duet of “Away in the Manger,” as evidenced by videos that were doing the rounds on social media , the participants were overwhelmed by the boy’s voice.
In the shared video on twitter by a fan, the two appear to be wearing matching puffy white dresses with crown-like headbands as they take to the stage surrounded by holiday decorations. The mother-daughter team continues to sing verses of “Away in the Manger” as the crowd cheers them on. At one point, they even whistle together, allowing Monroe to showcase the breadth of her musical abilities.
Though Monroe clearly inherited her mother’s musical talent, she’s still young, and Carey exudes a mix of protective and proud motherly energy throughout her performance. The ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ singer touches her daughter’s hair and smiles at her every time the 11-year-old starts to sing. The end result is a beautiful duet that shows how close Carey is to her children.
In addition to Monroe, Carey is also the mother of Moroccan, Monroe’s twin brother, both of whom she shares with Nick Cannon. While Moroccan has yet to perform a duet with his mother, he has shown he has star quality, just like the rest of his family. In July, he and his sister organized a runway show that turned out to be an elaborate skit showcasing the twins’ acting skills.
While no one knows what the future holds, there’s no telling where the twins will end up as Monroe and Moroccan continue to nurture their musical and acting talents. But one thing’s for sure, Monroe is already showing signs that she’s a mini Mimi, at least according to Carey’s fans.
