42 years have passed since the tragic death John Lennon on December 8, 1980. Although it has been decades since he was ruthlessly murdered on his own doorstep, Mary McCartney spoke EXCLUSIVELY HollywoodLife and remembered as her father Mr Paul McCartney reacted to the death of his former Beatles bandmate.
“I think it devastated him and it was a shock because John Lennon was someone who fought so hard for peace,” said the photographer and chef while promoting her forthcoming first feature-length documentary. If these walls could sing.
“What happened to him has upset so many people around the world to this day. I choose not to dwell on a day like today, I choose more to celebrate people’s birthdays,” he said Mary McCartney serves it star explained. “Well, when it’s someone’s birthday, I take more time than when my mother dies. I don’t actually do much on the day other than celebrate the day that would be her birthday. I would have to tackle something like that today as well.”
Mary also spoke about the recent death of Queen Elizabeth the second, when her father was knighted by Her Majesty in March 1997. “I think it affected the whole of Britain. We were all in mourning,” she said. “Queen Elizabeth is someone who has always been there for us and she was so devoted to the country, she was unwavering and her approach and she was just so loved and cared for. I think when she died, even though she had a good life, it was like losing her, you know, it reminded everyone of loss and death and loved ones, so a lot of people were very sad about it.”
“But it also made me really think and remember the moments when I met her because I was photographing her for the palace to publish the pictures to mark her as the longest reigning monarch. I thought fondly of those times when I met her and she was so amazing. She was such a force to be reckoned with.”
Mary has also been working on her first feature length documentary If these walls could sing premiering on Disney+ on December 16. “It feels really exciting because it’s such a great team; the production team and Mercury Studios, and then having it come out on Disney+ has been an amazing experience. I definitely have the bug of doing more. I really enjoyed the process.”
In the candid documentary, Mary uses her portraiture skills to collect personal stories on film and her creative eye to visually weave them with archival imagery and footage into an intimate, emotional and accessible story of Abbey Road Studios. For more than 90 years, Abbey Road Studios have been at the heart of the music industry. Fans travel every year to have their picture taken at the world-famous crosswalk, and artists strive to follow in their heroes’ footsteps.
I have to admit I didn’t know [Abbey Road Studios] was 90 years old. I’ve been visiting Abbey Road since I was a child and live nearby so I feel comfortable there. I did not know that The dark side of the moon had been admitted there. I didn’t think there were any soundtracks like that Lord of the rings Trilogy, Harry Potter, Reich strikes back, war of stars Franchise, the names go on. I learned a lot. You know, as a kid you kind of go places and you don’t necessarily take the time to understand the larger meaning of it, but now I really get it.”
