It’s been quite a fashion week in the nation’s capital. On Dec. 1, President Biden’s first state dinner — at which he and first lady Jill Biden hosted President Emmanuel Macron of France and his wife Brigitte Macron — brought out a crowd of stylish celebrities including Jennifer Garner, John Legend and Julia Louis-Dreyfus , alongside fashionable tastemakers like Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and designers Christian Louboutin and Gabriela Hearst. Then, on December 4th, the 45th Kennedy Center Honors took place. The annual event recognizes notable figures in the performing arts for their contributions to American culture.

This year’s Kennedy Center honorees were George Clooney, U2, Tania León, Amy Grant and Gladys Knight. Much like the state dinner earlier this week, the red carpet delivered one gala-worthy look after another. Take Amal Clooney, for example, who attended a pre-dinner ahead of the ceremony on Dec. 3 with her husband in a red off-the-shoulder Valentino dress. The chic style featured a fitted column silhouette and a dramatic, voluminous cape.

As he walked the red carpet, Amal’s cape momentarily tangled and when photographers snapped, Mr Clooney, 61, stepped in to give his wife a little wardrobe help. Amal paired her classic cherry red dress with complementary accessories, including a matching clutch bag and sparkling diamond earrings and bracelets.

“Growing up in a small town in Kentucky, I never imagined that one day I would be the one sitting on the balcony of the Kennedy Center Honors,” George noted at the event, which took place on Wednesday, March 28 December, airing on CBS.

Aside from the Clooneys, Vice President Kamala Harris, Julia Roberts, Ariana DeBose and more made other notable appearances at the formal event on December 4th.
